So after hours of research I decided to pick up the Nikon D50. I have to tell you I love this camera. Sure, its not the top of the line, but neither am I. But it captures great images and has very low noise at ISO 1600 which is something I appreciate. It has just about all the features I want in a camera. Considering I have been shooting with an Olympus E-10 fixed lens DSLR, I am gitty with how fast I can focus and shoot now. No more waiting 5 seconds for a preview image to load! Woohoo!

Anywho, here are some from the shoot yesterday. Nikon D50 with an 18-55mm and a 50mm 1.7 lens I am practicing with for portraits.

It's always refreshing to hear good things about the "bread & butter" cameras, and not just those at the upper end of the food chain. We'd all like to carry around a $5,000 body, but the reality is that in the end it still boys down to eye and technique.

Really like #4, and #1 is a very close second. I'm just wondering on #3, and please understand that this question comes from a self-admitted hack, if you tried any of this pose with a flash to fill in some of the shadows? I'm just curious.

Yeah #4, really like the pose.

Nice work on the wedding bride . I have a question for you. I have never found a need to shoot at an iso of 1600 . What condtions do you have that you need an iso 1600 ? Do you have an example of what you have shot ?

I had a nice flash on hand but decided to go with an assistant and a large reflector. I guess its just personal preference or my own style, but I tend to enjoy pictures with more contrast shadowing as opposed to using the fill flash and diminishing it.

Very nice. I particularly like the seoncd and last ones.

I've been considering the D50. Mind telling me which of these are shot with which lens?

Thanks.

These are terrrific shots. I agree that equipment matters less than the photographer. I just went digital this year with a Nikon D70. It also marked my entry into the world of auto focus. So far the only thing I prefer it for is when I travel. Traveling with a digital camera is far, far easier than with film camera.

As for getting great images, I would direct you to Mark Sink in Denver, http://www.gallerysink.com/marksink/index.html, whos camera of choice is a Diana. You know those ones that you would get in a box of detergent when we were kids? He built a nice career on a free camera with a plastic lens.

1 and 2 are with the 17-55mm lens that one of the d50 kits comes with. Its a very nice lens and focuses very quickly and quietly.

3 and 4 are a nikkor 50mm lens with a 1.7 aperature I believe. Its a pretty fast lens. These shots were taken at 2.5ish I believe, do not recall exactly.

I highly recommend the D50 for anyone not wanting to give up quality but also not wanting to break the bank.
