I contacted the model's manager - the one who actually uploaded the images for the contest. He and I worked out an amicable arrangement - one that puts a value on my work, but doesn't burn any bridges. I'm still not happy with the Maxim copyright release form, but, as was pointed out to me, I'm not selling my images to anyone anyway, so even if Kristie's picture becomes the most downloaded image in the history of the internet, I'm not really losing out on anything.

PLUS I can now honestly say, I can shoot "Maxim" style.

So, go vote for Kristie - and 9 others.

It's good you worked something out with the model's manager.
Now it's behind you and you can move on to bigger and better things.

I have advised people to get the annual "Photographer's Market" price guide
so that a true assesment of what magazines will pay or not pay for image rights.
Overall, it's pretty low or not at all, unless you are a direct commission.

Sometimes even that can be questionable as far as pay. Just depends on
your name "box office" value within the industry.

When you do work for most magazines, you are literally doing "work for hire."
Which means you do not own your work, they do.

Same thing in the movie industry. Most work is just work for hire and becomes
property of the corporation and if you are union, you get credit during the "crawls."
Or, you may not get credit, just paid and you hope you've built up a reputation within
the industry to where the "people who matter" keep calling you.

I have found you can make some good money if you are willing to be unkown.

If you are happy, we are all happy! You can say you are a "Maxim Shooter",
not just their style (if you think that is a plus)..
