i'm bored. so i'll post something inane.

it probly should be a poll but i don't know if i can do a poll or how to do a poll and i'm definitely too lazy to sit her and figure out if and how a poll can be done.

with that said, here it is: do you prefer being called a "photog" (or its shorter, more intimate variation, "tog") or "shooter?" or, are you the more formal type who prefers "photographer?"

me, i just about always refer to myself and others as a "shooter" unless i'm talking to someone who doesn't already know i'ma "shooter" in which case i'll probly initially refer to myself as a "photographer" until they digest that, and then i become a "shooter."

i don't think the word "photog" has ever come out of my mouth unless maybe i was choking on something as i was trying to say "photographer" and "photog..." was all that managed to get out. but i've seen the word "photog" used here often enough so some of you must be saying it even when you're not choking on a "photographer."

"Shooter" sounds, i dunno, more aggressive and manly i guess.

I think being a "shooter" is much more humble... I'd like to think I'm a photographer, but when I view my throwaways I really start to wonder....

I'll answer to most anything, other than "tog". I'm old enough to remember when "togs" meant clothing. Call me a "tog" and I'll keep on walking without hearing, otherewise I could care less.

Shooter, been called that for years, primarily because I was the guy on my ship that fired the missiles.....BANG!

I was thinking about the term photog and even though I use it a lot in terms, I really don't like it. I catch myself.......we need more photogs to sign up..LOL......funny how I can say photographer singular but when I refer to photographers as photogs, it does seem easier for me and I am trying to get better at not saying PHOTOGS.

I will use he or she is an excellent shooter but I would never call myself a shooter.

It still goes back to....... "Hello, I am Photographer J T Smith

I preach this at times about communication at various seminars.

so in short......

I am a photographer
He's a photographer
What a bunch of great photogs
How many photogs
He's a good shooter
An excellent shooter

Photogs has always sounded wrong like we are a bunch of boneheads... but I catch myself saying it for short.

JT
