I notice that many of the lovely ladies whose visages are posted here, have nose piercings, lip piercings, eyebrow piercings, and other facial piercings.

I'm interested in hearing from photographers, models, and makeup artists whether they think such piercings enhance the girl's beauty, or detract. Also curious about whether they've seen models lose or gain business because of piercings.

I have my own opinions, of course, but don't want to prejudice the discussion.

Does that mean if I say something I will prejudice others reply? Whatever floats your boat, everybody/one is different, let's hear it for diversity..

I don't know why but my feelings are that I never liked any peircings on the face of a model. Maybe a very small diamond on her nose I could deal with. But at the same time I love any other piercings on a models body. I wish I could get past that and shoot more models with face gear..

I suppose it all depends on the model and the type of modeling she does. There are some beautiful women with piercings that to alternative/goth style modeling, and in that case it can enhance.

More mainstream or glamour or commercial models should avoid the hardware because it definitely detracts from your work.

Many photographers don't like it, so it can also narrow the field of photographers that will work with you on a TFP basis.

Personally I'm against facial piercings, but I am a tattooed and pierced person below the neck.

Personally, I like piercings and tats. But there are times and clients for whom such would be inappropriate.

I think a model, unless she or he intends to specialize in gothic or fetish work, is probably more versatile without such adornments. But that's just my opinion.

It depends. If the tattoo is just 'there' it's "eh". But, if it contours and has harmony with their body it's really nice.

As a general rule they aren't my favorite, and I can see where I might be inclined to opt for one model over another based upon that issue. That said, I have yet to hear of a pro model that can't or won't remove them, and a little PS goes a long way.

before but I'll repeat:
I've always thought the eyes were the main attraction but with all the stuff I see stuck in, on, and around the face my eye is drawn to the hardware and not the eyes. I suppose with some that might be a blessing but most of these models have great eyes. I guess I'm old school but I had a wart on my nose removed years ago and when I see this stuff that is just what I think of. I may be too chicken to ask the model to remove it but believe me it will get 'shopped before I let it go out the door.
I swear it looks like we're going to start binding feet like the old chinese did, or tieing boards to our infants heads like the mayans used to do, or stretching necks and inserting plugs in lips like some of the tribes of africa did, all in the name of beauty. Silly? You bet, but one wonders what our progeny is going to say when they look at some of the stuff we do today. . . in the name of beauty.
