If anyone out there could enlighten me....? I recently entered an online model photo contest that offers nice monetary rewards to the top three models. Within 48 hours of the start of the contest, one girl had over 400 votes. A few others had anywhere from one to three hundred votes within that timeframe. This contest is on a legitimate modeling site, but honestly, it does not get that much traffic. I've noticed this same thing in almost every other contest I've entered....with some amazing girls (Playboy models and working swimwear models) only catching votes in the double digits while these other girls are raking them in, so I know it's not just me. What's going on? If it's just some sort of game, I'd like to understand exactly what it is and how to identify the legitimate contests so that I don't waste my time.

Having said all of this, I'd also like to thank Rolando for offering an honest contest on this site. I enjoy the fact that only G1 members vote on the images. The ability to enter comments is fantastic, and it would truly be helpful if the photographers who are voting would use the feature to enter any constructive comments explaining the basis for the ratings they give. Obviously, beauty is subjective, but it would be beneficial to know if ratings are given based solely on the model's appearance, expression or lack thereof, too much/too little/too obvious post-production, good or bad crop, lighting, etc. Constructive criticism can only help us deliver a better result next time. Of course, if you're voting a 10, raving about how stunning a model is can do amazing things for the ego and is always welcome!

I appreciate any insight offered regarding the contests. Thanks....

more than likely it's open vote, meaning that the models in question probably have a fan website and has posted the link so all of her fans and visitors can link over and vote for her. Other's with little to no vote probably have not announced that they are in the contest.

Depends on how the web site vote count is setup. Without any control, like cookies that record someone having already voted, one person could just sit there and keep hitting the refresh key. Each time is a vote.

It is possible that someone has a big fan club and they all voted for her. But I doubt it.

Online contests can be pretty flakey.

I agree with everything that has been said.

here's how to solve that one. It's easy, just Get a myspace, livejournal, modelmayhem, ***, AND personal website----then start getting all of the photographers you've ever shot with to put it on THEIR sites, too, then call the google people and have them post a banner on their homepage advertising you..then call kellogs and get your face plastered on the cereal boxes (not the healthy stuff though, the REAL sugary stuff that everyone buys), then....

Yeah, I like that on this site, only members can vote. and darnit, they SHOULD use the comment section more. okie...off to bed with me.

p.s. good luck everyone in the contest...it has been REALLY tight for the past couple weeks.

I wish that everyone would leave a comment. It would help you models out a ton since I figure you posted an image that you really like yourselves. This would help balance what the models sees in herself to what others see.

I guess I could write comments in more often , but the old rules were only supportive comments were to be given in the contest area
so the score itself is the good to bad comment for me
If you point out things you don't like about it ( bad pose bad hair ..whatever ) you might change the rest of the voters choices !!
IF I 'really' thought it would help , I do send a PM to the model about the shot so as not to infuence anyone
