the "forums" pull-down menu does not include the "main community" forum. it also lists an "off-topic" forum but no such forum exists.

the subscription options do not seem to allow for more discrimate automatic emails, e.g., i'd like automatic emails re: threads i started and replies i've made, but not every post to every thread that i participated in.

Oh, is this the "problems I'd like fixed thread"?

How about selectable fonts for reading messages. 8 point Tahoma font on a bright white background is not the greatest for ancient eyes... someday you'll be old!

Then there's reading a forum. To see the next message thread in the forum, assuming you started at the first message listed, you have to hit "Previous Thread" not "Next Thread"

Paraphrasing a math teacher of many years ago... not quite "intuitively obvious to the casual observer"...

Then there's the sticky labels on the formatting tools above the message box. If you, for instance, put the cursor on the italic I, the italic label will pop up and stay there even though you move the cursor around to different icons... It will eventually disappear...

Why can't I preview a reply to a post... used to be able to...

Just a few things that caught my rapidly deteriorating eyes...

I think it was Professor Funkenbush who used to say "...as is intuitively obvious to the most casual observer..." all the time in the Game Theory course he taught. Naturally, none of what he said was intuitively obvious to this casual observer. And the course had nothing to do with games, and it was only theory until he explained it. Go figure.

BS, Metallurgical Engineering, Michigan Technological University, A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

(Don't be too impressed, when I graduated the periodic table only had four elements in it: Earth, Fire, Air and Water.)

Nope, not Michigan Tech. U of Toledo...

As I recall the complete line was something about "The solution should be intuitively obvious to the casual observer and is left as an exercise for the student..." or something close. Well it damn well wasn't obvious to me, and the "exercise" often took up most of my day...

I can't recall the professor's name, but he had taught at one of the military academys. It was some sort of advanced engineering math course taken in a summer session... definitely not a great way to spend warm summer days!

He used to meet us at the door with little slips of paper with problem names on them. If he handed you one, you IMMEDIATELY went to the blackboard and wrote out the solution to the problem, often filling the board with tiny differential equations... I still shiver every time I think about it.

The saving grace was that he had previously solved the problem in class and all you had to do was memorize the complete solution and be able to duplicate it ... but enough of this.

Strange how snippets of language stick in your mind for years and years.

There's another about "One must learn to accept the challenges and opportunities afforded by employment within this organization..." but that's a totally different story...
