Apparently, if I want the photos to be in my portfolio, I need to put them there. If I want them to be in my gallery, I can choose one of the categories. I guess that the gallery is just a place to show photos.
When you post a photo using the Upload photo dialog several different things can happen. If you leave the default category as "Portfolio Member List", then it will show up in your portfolio when you click on the Portfolio button. Keep in mind that it appears that this category must be the first category (the top most one in the dialog). You can then assign the photo to two additional categories making a total of three. When you click on the "Click here to see ... " link you are seeing a copy of all of your photos which can include 1, 2 or 3 copies of the same photo (odd concept of there having to be more than one copy of a photo to have it in more than one category - defies normal relational database strategy). I assume that sometime in the future this will be streamlined.
Bottom line is that you have to have the category of "Portfolio Member List" as the category of the first photo of a set of 1 to 3 dupes if it will show up in what is called the Portfolio. Also it appears that there is no way for someone to just view all of "your" photos in a specific category. At least I see no way to do that right now.
