I'm glad you asked the question. I couldn't figure out how to tell the levels of membership.

Probably need to add the size restriction to the FAQ paragraph on avatars. The "more info" link does not have it.

The MM site makes it real easy by allowing one to just select a photo in the portfolio and use that; I assume some tiny program shrinks it to practical avatar size.

19k maximum size ... ok never saved to such a small size but will try it.

OK, it was a bit of a pain, but it worked. First I saved the intended image to 100x100 pixels or 19k whichever is less. Then I uploaded the tiny version to add to its larger counterpart in my portfolio. Then I clicked on the new small image, right clicked to get its properties and copied the file location. Then I went to My Home or similar tab and edit profile or similar spot where one can edit an avatar. Having found that place I then pasted in the file location (which happens to be on G1 itself) into the avatar location block and hit save. That seems to work.

The simplicity of this is that the G1 website does not have to look anywhere else for it so no problems with other hosts nor with FireFox or other computer security settings.

Steve

P.s. someone else on this thread mentioned the Life Membership not showing up. Same here. No big deal, but just mentioning it in case there is a pattern.

As for the size restrictions on the Avatar, it is on the bottom of the dialog where you add or edit your avatar. Here is the screen shot:

To get the avatar to the right size is very easy. Just load the image you want into PS. Reduce it so that either the width or height is 100 pixels. Then cropp off either top or side to get 100 pixels for the other dimenstion. Then use File | Save for Web with "high" as the quality and that will give you an image smaller than 19k everything.

As far as where it shows if you are a lifetime member, it will say it in your title below your name to the side of each post you make, assuming you haven't done as you've done, change it to something other than the default (you've chosen "Life is Great"). If you reset that in the options, then it will show Lifetime member again.

Cheers,
rfs
