I get requests all the time to shoot "edgy" images, but until now wasn't quite sure I was on the same wavelength as most models. So ... here's my definiteion of some photography terms:

• "Sexy" is photographing a beautiful model wearing some sexy Victoria's Secret lingerie.

• "Artistic" is photographing that same beautiful model without the lingerie.

• "Edgy" is photographing that same model without the lingerie ... after the MUA has splashed her with a can of cold body paint!

Here's Karen. You can her under the definition of "sexy."

"edgy" is a term clients use when they have no idea how to communicate what it is they actually want but what they want is something that's different from what they already have and something that kind of pushes the rules or goes outside the norm even though most of them don't have a clue what those rules are and what is outside norm to one person is fairly norm to another. they might as well say, "i don't know what i want but i'll know it when i see it."

LOL...Marty that wouldn't be so darn funny if it didn't seem to be so darn accurate.

Just wish that I could find a way to make a living as Bobby Bouche' (aka - The Waterboy).

I would have to add these to your definitions

Sexy can be nude or lingerie (in color)

Artistic is black/white or sepia

Edgy is color or B/W with adjustments on the lighting to give you harsher shadows. Almost every time someone says edgy, they have harsh lighting.

basically, "edgy" is a loose, vague, non-descript term that is somewhat fashionable to use. generally, it means they don't know what they want, they just know they want it to have and "edge," whatever and "edge" is. other terms that are of this ilk are "pushing the envelope," and "taking it to new levels."
