(model-Jen/Elite, phtg-Fred Ramirez, makeup/hair-Candace Corey for a magazine beauty spread, year: 2005)

As photographers, hair stylist, makeup artists and models....we get into our craft for creativity. We try to push ourselves to be better than we used to be, and even sometimes using mentors to give ouselves a guage to where we want to go.

(model-Kelly, phtg-Marc Grant, makeup/hair/styling-Candace Corey for portfolio work, year: 2004 I think)

In all of the years of creating and pushing sometimes we don't sit back to see where we came from and ENJOY where we are. Well today I did that....

(model-Nakiesha/One, phtg-Wayne Sclesky, hair-Desmund Murray/London, makeup-Candace Corey for IMOS fashion show in Jamaica, year: 2003)

Not trying to pat myself on the back, but to use it as a sense of encouragement, because Lord knows that we all have days that make us stop and wonder why we keep on doing what we do! But once we have had a taste of it....we just can't seem to stop wanting to create.

(model-Tamar, phtg-Rick Hughes, makeup/hair/styling-Candace Corey, after HTL, year...OMG forever ago!)

So here are some of my images from past shoots and some from current shoots. But have you sat back and looked at where you've been to where you are now?

And I did it earlier today, in fact.

I look back even just a year ago and see things differently, and sometimes it makes me want to puke. And then I see something more recent that all came together, and I'm glad that a couple of people didn't let me quit. And then sitting back and looking at stuff from a period of time, I see something that really worked in the middle of the crap, and wonder "how the hell did I do that, when I was doing all that other crap all around it?!?"

And then I remember the wise words of my buddy Shadow: "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes."

Here's one of the people that wouldn't let me quit (I think this is literally the 5th time that I pushed the button on her, a couple years ago).

As a novice in the part of the photographic world I constantly sit back in wonder of the images that I see. Subtle changes in light that makes you see the ordinary differently, a model's subtley upturned lip that conveys a message that you don't quite get, and the use of everyday scenes or objects that just force you to take a look at things with a new frame of mind. And of course there is just the sheer beauty of the model that leaves you speechless.

I can catch a cyclist at 30 mph leaning into a turn while laying on my back and him/her only inches away. No problem. But this stuff still impresses the hell out of me on a daily basis.
