took a look at your outtakes. i dunno why don needed to hold a reflector for JT in those two pics... they've both got a what looks like fairly effective reflector mounted on their shoulders. LOL Don kept threatening to turn a mylar balloon inside out, attach some elastic to it, and call it a "dome reflector" One for him and one for JT haha

you know- i love that you posted these- a long time ago...way back in 2005 ( i know- it's a while back- try to remember...LOL)Bob Warren and Jerry Brown introduced me to the joy of outtakes. I think they're my favorite pics- all of my friends crowd around the monitor, having heard the latest phootshoot stories, and get to see me at my best

Love those images, cArly_eRin.

And yes, to me those moments between the images we are after are often the most genuine and fun ones. It's the point were the subject isn't trying to portray a smile, they are simply smiling.

My enjoyment in these "between shots" stems back to my photojournalism roots -- capturing life as it happens as opposed to orchestrating or influencing what is shown. Tat's my strength AND my weakness -- at the same time -- in photographing in the glamour style.

An ideal assignment for me in photojournalism is where I get in close and unnoticed and capture that look or moment in an image that tells the whole story. To approach glamour the same way, I doubt I'd ever get the shot or -- at the very best -- have to be lucky to stumble across the moment.

More simply put, the worst thing you can do in photojournalism is go into an assignment with expectations or a preconcieved notion. The worst thing you can do in glamour photography is NOT go into an shoot with expectations or a preconcieved notion!

So it's a constant battle for me to utilize the technical aspects learned from PJ work (how the light best plays across a form, equipment knowlegde, etc.) and not fall into the PJ mode of shooting a model and hoping he/she hits the look I am trying for.

Anyhoo, the beauty of the "between shots" are that they let me use both styles at once.

Wordy tonight, sorry.

Thanks again,

Dave
