Dave,
These are really cool. I've got the IR bug again.

The Burren site talked about filter choices. Do you know how your camera was converted?

Wow!

Beautiful IR work.

What equipment did you use for this?

Regards,

Luis

I think Off has come out with a spray to ward off those pesky IR bugs.

Anyhoo, as luck would have it, I am a pack rat and had the original eBay listing saved on my hard drive ... lol

Here's what it said in the text about the conversion ...

At auction is a fairly unique version of the Nikon D70 6.1 MP DSLR. It has been modified so it is now a dedicated infrared camera.

Normally, to take infrared photos, you must set up on a tripod, frame the shot, focus, attach an opaque filter in front of the lens, and bracket your exposures. Exposure times are very long because of the IR blocking hotmirror filter installed in front of the CCD. These long exposure times drastically increase noise levels, and run the risk of hot pixel problems with your CCD.

This D70 has been professionally modified to make infrared photography as easy as normal digital photography. The original filter in front of the CCD has been replaced with a resin IR Longpass filter (<700nm–it blocks most visible light, and only passes IR waves longer than 700nm or so). With the new IR filter in place, exposure times are no slower than you would expect with normal use of the camera (ISO 200, f/16, 1/200 sec outdoors). This means there is not the normal high noise level associated with IR photos. Additionally, you are able to use the viewfinder like normal for composing and taking your photos. No tripod is necessary for normal IR shots. No additional filter is needed on your lens.

Hope that helps and let me know if I can be of any additional help with this, my Dew Brother.

Thanks Luis (who did not serve as my navigator at any point during the Harlingen trip ... lol ... sorry, couldn't resist)!

The camera is a modified Nikon N70 (more details about it are in the above post to Bruce).

The backstory at the event was that I brought it the first day, but since the skies were gloomy all day I basically was schlepping around the extra weight, so I left it in the motel room from then on.

When the skies broke free with light during DK's fine arts session two days later, I thought "ahhh, I can go IR" then recalled it was back at the motel! LOL

So during the lunchbreak I touched base with JT, made the mad dash back to retrieve the camera and arrived back just in time for the afternoon sessions. I snapped about 30 frames off during my group working with Sarah before the sun retreated back into the gloom.

Thanks again,

Dave
