Okay, let's face it, given our current culture the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue is about as exciting as watching bass fishing on TV. The last issue anybody paid attention to was the 2000 issue which featured naked fashion models (in truth, redundant) "wearing" painted on swimsuits, and then SI followed it up with the 2001 3-D issue. Now, unless they were ready to publish a "naked in 3-D" issue, the game was pretty much over. The current issue rehashes the body paint thing which is like the angel wings in the Victoria Secret shows, DONE, OVER, FOGEDABOUDIT!

Still, SI never fail's to amaze me with their total disconnect from the modern world (and this from someone who still thinks babes in swimsuits are an art form!) Okay, what's wrong with this picture, and can anyone explain why they took this opportunity to make a public statement about SI's (Julie Campbell's) greatest embarrasment?

Yes, sadly I know it's about the color of money, but still anyone this successful should be able to rise above this occasionally.

blame the adult industry. if adult hadn't diluted glamour, this SI edition would be on top of everyone's must-have list for private viewing materials.

The problem is they just don't do it well. But then what do you expect from a bunch of jock critics. But my estimation of SI is that for eleven mos. out of the year it's much ado about few things that matter and come Feb. its more ado about things they know even less about.
Frankly I spend more time perusing "Photoshop User" than Sports Anything. If I want to see good swimsuit stuff I wait for A-Mac to post on GG. Or Da Fish when he gets around to us.

Part of SI's problem is using Walter Iooss. He's a good, even brilliant sports photographer, but with women, beauty, and flesh, he's got the touch of a butcher. One year, a professional beauty photographer friend of mine sat down, went through an entire SI, and got almost 100% right on our guesses of which photos were down by Iooss. Pretty easy on most of them, because his eye was so amateurish.

Another part of SI's problem is using the same models. Why not grab some gorgeous unknown newcomers off the testing boards at major agencies? For that matter, why not grab some great but unknown photographers and give them a shot? It could hardly be worse than what we get now.

Another advantage of using new models and photographers is that we might see some more daring shots and interesting suits. SI is getting to be so chicken I expect it to soon begin laying eggs.

good point. i was hired a few weeks back to shoot fashion for a new line of men's underwear. the fashion consultant who was also at the shoot told me that i was selected over 4 experienced fashion shooters because she and the client both agreed that i really knew "how to handle skin."

"....everythin' I'm say'n is goin' over their heads!"

Yeah, Tyra has "out grown" swimsuit modeling. Even so, I doubt she'd have given them a beard on this.

Another case in point, the '94 issue. Dream Team indeed, maybe if you're David Duke.

PS: Two of the models on this cover were (quite obviously) pregnant. Several other models who appeared in this issue (but not on the cover) were not. Go figure.

i agree... my take on it has always been... more T & A..
not more nudity, but better bikini type bodies...
i like "bikini girls" in bikinis.. not 5'11" fashion models...

i would rather see a playboy model in a bikini that a fashion model...

i'll still look at both, but yall know what i mean..

Fish I am glad I am not the only one that thought that. The photography looks like I did it 15 years ago. It was that bad. Pros? Boy with that many beautful women and all that money and equiptment you would think it was alot better than that turned out.
