Kori was doing this Model Expo thing today (basically, a GWC convention) and asked me to accompany her. Rick (DBA1) also tagged along and, I'm pretty sure, permanently satisfied his desire to attend any future photo-clusterphucks of this sort. Anyway, I got a hair up my u-gno-what and thought it might be interesting -- and i stress the word "might" -- to click some snapshots of the models holding a pic from their books. while many of them instantly labeled me the ultimate WWC (i.e., Weirdo With a Camera) and appropriately distanced themselves, a few of them humoured the old weirdo, probably figuring it was safer to do so and that maybe I'd go away quicker. I asked some of them if they would try to mimic the expression they were making in their pics: Some obliged (hoping, no doubt, it would move me along a little quicker) and some did not choosing, i suppose, to maintain their model dignity.

Jimmy
Even GWC/Snapshot Style you shots have something about them. Maybe someday you should have a workshop, I would want to come time permitting.

I think I gotta agree with that one, a JimmyD workshop might be interesting.

Interesting idea. Is there a statement about which is the greater reality in the selective conversion? Are you going all intelleckshul on us?

Seriously - nice work, IMO.

As always, thanks for sharing.

interesting question. the environment of a GWC convention is fairly surreal as it is. but the decision to choose which reality would be portrayed in color and which in monotone was easy and driven by a certain inalterable reality: had i chose to portray the reality captured in their pics in monotone people might assume it was simply a monochrome photo they were holding and it would say nothing.

as far as me going "all intelleckshul," haven't I always been one? one of them intelleckshul's, that is? or am i confusing my intelleckshulism with being a smart-asss?

this model held up a monochrome print so it called for a different intelleckshul approach to the conversion process.

Yeah, I thought of that issue - but I think the statement made (or at least the one I drew) from your approach is quite interesting. The image in your response adds a great deal to the "package", even though the conversion is handled differently.

"am i confusing my intelleckshulism with being a smart-asss?" Is there a difference? Darn, thought I had it nailed.

Dude! These are very cool! When I saw you running around taking pictures of girls with their pictures. I thought you bumped your head in the mosh pit! Another lesson learned!

Note to self.... Make the most of every photographic opportunity.
