I have my first session with MUA/Stylist attending coming up this Saturday. This is to be a TFP session for her, and I have a couple of questions to make sure that I am ready for this.

1. Does her usage agreement stand between her and I (Photographer) or does she get a release from the Model(s)?

2. Does anyone have a suitable agreement that I could use as a template (assuming of course that I even need one)?

3. Any other suggestions, thoughts or advice regarding my conduct, involvement (or lack of) or anything else for that matter would be appreciated.

Respect and Thanks to all that reply.

The MUA doesn't need a model release - the MUA needs a copyright release from you saying that they can use the images. YOU have the model release which allows you to use the model's image and then you license the copyright of that image. Look for a copyright release and you'll find the right form - I'd make sure that you're allowing the MUA to use the images for promotional use only.

One thing that potentially drives a MUA crazy - a photographer that has no idea what they want. Look around at magazines or images from GG or SOMETHING to be able to tell the MUA the kind of makeup you want - commercial, fashion, glamour, etc. What colors do you want/need? Emphasis on the eyes or the lips or the face or what? Don't be afraid to ask the makeup artist to guide you - but you have to be able to tell them where you want to go in order to be guided.

Have fun!

Hi there I am a makeup artist and Ive done various shoots. some have been tfp and some have been paid work. I have never needed any kind of forms to sign...the photographer usually gives me a cd or sends me pics through email of the model. and when I first get to a shoot and the model is sittin in my makeup chair i ask the photographer what he wants for the shoot...they usually tell me what she is wearing and I decide from then on what kind of makeup is needed...u shouldnt have to go into to much detail with the makeup artist she should know as a makeup artist where to go from there. the first thing i look at is the color of the eyes and hair on the model..and what they are wearing...so if this makeup artist knows what she is doing you dont need to direct her much.

Thank You Stace!

Some really good tips there, and I assure you that I do have some vision of what I'm after. We've already spoken about her part in this, and she has seen some earlier shots of the model so she has some idea of what I want to change/improve for our session.
