Hey all. Well, once again, after much "eventful history" I am climbing back in the saddle.

First order of business, announcing my business. Second Sight Studio provides several digital photography services including image manipulation and retouching.

Second order of business, if anyone uses a Spyder 2 Pro to calibrate their monitors could you please let me know your process? I've gone through it several times and still end up with rather reddish-brown white points.

And lastly, you can donate to the "Buy-Dave-a-1Ds-MarkII" fund by sending money through paypal to dwilson@vorteximaging.com (I'll be changing that soon if paypal will let me).

Cheers!

So far I'm up to about $15. I'm just not sure if I should be including my own donations to the cause.

If the Spyder 2 is as good as the original Spyder then you are hosed dude, it it's better than the original then sooner or later you might get a good calibration. Get the Monaco Xrite calibrator, it's much better and it's very easy to use.

Well, I'm just borrowing this one cause I figured it would be better than what I was doing before (The Adobe Gamme wizard or whatever it is. Everytime I go to use it I have to spend 20 minutes trying to remember it's name or where I found it.)

Anyways, once I get a couple jobs under my belt I will definitely get an XRite as you suggest.

Thanks!

a blind monkey could calibrate a monitor with Adobe Gamma better than you can get with a Colorvision Spyder. I got one and my color management went to hell. I spent a number of years doing prepress work and I'm actually very good at calibrating by eye. The Spyder is even worse in that sometimes it will give a decent calibration and fool you into thinking it works. Try using it on a room full of computers and look at them all from the back where you can see all the screens.....horrid. I got the Xrite from Monaco and things became very good and easy, plus the Xrite package we got had a site license so it saved us lots of money.
