OK, it's kinda new to me to try to freehand vignette something
I just ran the burn tool around to darken things up
I just got tired of the background

comments and critiques are welcome (well they will be read by me )

Works for me due to the fact your image has impact. The model has the face of a young girl and the lingerie of another era. Contradition gets attention.

Also, the dark background forces my eye to go directly to the pink outfit.

I do not think it (burning) would work for most images.

Jim

Most of my images would be better if I burnt them

But seriously...
I have tried it on some but never could get it to work out
It takes a while to do it right and I rushed it

I didn't think about the outfit as being "older", might have to try some kind of themed edging for it down the road

Thanks Jim , keep up the good work with Orchid

Normally I'm not much on effects like this, but in this case I believe it works. I think the burn effect helps the outfit fit the background which helps with the era feel to it.
Good job.

Thanks for the comment , I just HAD to get rid of the background after editing a handful of images from that set , I suprised myself with the way it came out.

Second comment about the outfit going with what I did , happy accident on my part I guess

For this type effect try using your history brush. When you just use the burn tool it makes a dark gray burn in. First use levels are curves to darken the whole image. Then take a history snap shot. It's the little camera looking thing at the botom of your history palate. Next is to undo the curve or level you just made. You have to click on the history brush and change your opacity of your history brush so that you darken a little at a time. Look under the photo tips here on GG, it is explaned a lot better there. This way you are burning with the same colors that are in your photo and not just a dark gray.
