I have to agree with Don 100%.

I have been around trying to decide weather to spend my money to become a member of this community. I realize I do not post as much as some of the members, but I have been doing alot of reading educating myself on the quality of the topics. In my opinion it seems that the minute somone starts a controversial topic, everyone decides to respond. This is what it seems like to an outsider trying to become a member of the community.

Right on the money, Doug. So far you've heard from about 4 or 5 others who would appreciate an honest detailed critique. My guess is there are larger numbers who just want a "nice pic" comment because they have an image of a female with not a lot of clothes on.

I'd suggest other venues for "learning photography" - workshops, college courses, community schools, Brooks, Hallmark, RMSP, NYIP to name a few. Lots of texts and programs as well. Geez, buy Rolando's stuff - I know he'd appreciate it.

Then what would you have here? A buch of seasoned pro's posting great images for eachother? Sorry, but I chose this venue to learn.

Geez Don, That one is too easy. Respond to the image you don't know how to fix, like "I don't like the lighting/shadowing on the model's face, but I'm not sure how I would fix that - does anyone have some good ideas?" - or whatever it is you want info on.

It ain't like ASKING FOR DIRECTIONS while traveling. Just pull up your big boy pants and ask what you want to know. THEN if you get no response, you've got a gripe/rant. Perhaps being the overposting posterboy won't work in your favor on this, but it may be worth a try, hell, anybody can bitch.

Cheers, Dr. Phil of Photography

We have a Critique forum.

When I post images here, I don't mind if someone comments on them, but I don't EXPECT a comment! I usually post here just to show people what I've been doing lately or to show that I'm still around, or to show off a model that I think other photographers might be interested in.

Precisely!! I've been getting alot of images in my PMS asking for help,,and Im beginning to think its because no wants to offer it anymore..
It is true that I've reached a level when I know something is right or wrong. thats why I dont post many to the critique section of the forum. but I've been trapped in my little safety net for sometime now. and Im ready to move on.
but if I post and nothing gets a response, Im with Cinn on this one, Why bother? I dont post my images for the "Spank" factor. I post them in hopes someone will help step up to the next level! I cant show my Image to a book or a DVD and have it tell me what I did wrong or what I could do to improve the image..I know its not everyone responsiblity to teach on here...but I thought learning Glamour photography is what this site was all about..I guess its not anymore, by the attitudes in some of the responses. Alot of people are assuming Im talking about myself in this rant and Im not, by the PM's and Emails Im getting, which I enjoy reading them and helping anyone I can, I just feel there alot of photogs New and Veteran alike that could be getting more from our lil community!!! so I guess if Im just "Bitching" then so be it!!!

Don.

I see your point. However, what *if* no one commented on your post? Would you take that as no one really cares what you have been doing lately? Or, if your still around? Or about your model? Would you keep posting?

.....most everyone wants to hear "attaboy" ....nice pics... cool....you're so talented,...............especially if you are some "hotshot",....then, you are "infallible"......and in that case, .."just who do you think you are to be critical of so & so..?"

You dig..?

Oh well..

I don't much care any more,......especially when it comes to the "screamer" who constantly posts over rated crapola IMO all the time... It isn't worth my time.. Then there are the "Gem Makers" who can take a beautiful looking image, and then polish it into a turd by massively over photoshopping it....yet they still draw out the "oooohs and aaaahs... Oh well,...I'd like to see them satisfy my clients.. It's a good thing they have day jobs that do not involve photography to fall back on..

I write this to you from my hotel room, as I am on the road again, making a living shooting non glamourous stuff, and really enjoying it..

I agree 100%, and have to plead guilty to not spending enough time discussing images here. It does seem to me that the site is pretty busy at the moment, and I have enough trouble just keeping up with reading all the posts. No excuses though - must try harder!

I am confused by some replies to this thread that appear to think it is an acceptable practice to post an image here and not expect a discussion of your work.

In my part of the world the word "Forum" is defined as a place for public discussion. Surely, if all you want to do is post pictures for people to look at without comment, then you should put them in your portfolio. Why would you post them to a "place for public discussion"?

Of course my command of the American language is poor at best, so perhaps the word "Forum" means something else to some of you.

Or maybe it's all just exhibitionism.
