I've been assimilated. I've been a film die hard and told myself years ago that when digitals made the 10Mp jump i'd give it a try. Well, they did so I did. I bought my first "real" digital camera (the D200). OMG! I love it. The quality is outstanding. The digital workflow is awesome. Take a picture. Don't like it, see what you don't like, correct it and shoot again. So this is what you digital guys have been talking about. It's kinda like having kids. You can stand around and talk about it with others, but until you have one, you just don't understand. No real purpose to my post other than to just say Weeeeeewww hooooooo! Excuse me, I mean Yeeeeeee Haawwww (Texas). Here's my obligatory first test shot.

Noooooooooo!!!!!!

Don't leave me by myself! Yeah, I admit, I'd like to have a D200 myself, but you just sound TOO happy about it, lol.

Have fun with it dude. I got me a new toy coming soon too, a lens I ordered several weeks back that should be getting here any day now, for a camera I HAVE to use with film (unless I want to sell my @$$ on the street to pay for a medium format digital back ).

Have fun!

Sam

P.S.: Test shot looks nice, too.

If you had a Reeaaallly nice @$$ you might could pay for it in this lifetime. Those things are E X P E N S I V E ! Even if you didn't sell yourself on the street to get it, you would probably feel like you did after you laid down the cash for it (Ouch!). It might be better to just stick with photography.

I'd really like to see what could be done with a 22mp back on a Med format.

Thanks,

It took me a little while to get use to the bigger body than my old D70, but now I'm really diggin' it!

Here's GG's Misti shot with the D200 & AFS 28-70mm f/2.8 Nikkor

I wrestled with the decision, sweating over it day and night ... buy a D200 or buy a 70-200 f2.8 VR lens. After weeks of not sleeping (and when I was sleeping I'd be dreaming about photo shoots) ... I finally made my decision -- I bought the lens! And while I absolutely LOVE the lens, I can help but be envious of your new toy. If I keep seeing all you D200 shooters posting great images, maybe I'll buy one later this year ... when they bring out the wireless adapter. Until then, here's a shot made with my trusty (and crusty) old D100 ... with my new lens! It's only 6.1 megapixel ... but they're very attractive pixels!

I tried the D70 but It just seemed to take a lot of "tweaking" in photoshop to get the images right. With the D200, it just seems to be easier to take a great pic, with little to no tweaking. Have you seen this or is it in my head? It's very sharp. The Auto white balance is exceptional, skin tones and colors are very accurate. It has the same quality and contrast as Fuji Astia film, which has always been my favorite. Maybe that is why I like it soo much.

I just printed a 16 X 20 that looks like it was shot by a 645. I was very surprised.

I glad to hear this as I have a D-200 on my want list. I have a D-100 right now and the camera got put on the wait list for same reason as Marty, 'cept I got a 17-55 2.8 Nikkor DX, I already see a great improvement in my files. Now I cant wait to pair my new lens with a D-200.

It's not in your head. The D70 shoots reds too hot and is too contrasty in my opinion. I shot exclusively in RAW and had the ACR calibration numbers tweaked to bring it back into 'normal' land. The D200 was spot on right out of the box. I initially thought it shot way too blue, but that was before Adobe released ACR3.3 with D200 support. Coming from pink land, it was nice to get skin tones correct without serious ACR work. Once I was able to run the numbers, I have a workflow that suits me just fine.

Stick the 180mm f/2.8 prime in front of the D200 and watch it shine!
