I was fortunate to get some time with GG's own Misti today. Here are a couple of headshots. First with the 180mm f/2.8, second with the 70-200 f/2.8 VR. Both with the Nikon D200.

What do you think JT (others welcome as well)?

Nice shots. I've exchanged a couple of emails with Misti and hope to work out a shooting time with her. She reminds me in some of her photos of Rebecca De Mornay as she looked in "Risky Business" and several other movies. I think she would work well for some of my retro style shots.

Cheers,
rfs

Both are striking. Gorgeous face! Photographically, I like second best.
Nikki shown here, also in a horizontal format.
Nikki is an actress that's does a great job as a model. She came to me for some updated headshots.
Great work on your part!

I really like your lighting in this picture, besides the beautiful model.
Could you share how you lit it ?

Thanks, Vic

Very nice Scott. The 1st one is my favorite. What was the lighting setup for the main? Interesting catch lights.

Nice job. I like the lighting. It looks like you might have used a softbox from below to light your model. Again, nice work.

5 ft Softbox, angled down about 20 degrees, bounced off the white tile floor in front of her. I get the box as close as possible so the light is as broad and soft. Box was probably less than 5 ft from her.
Rear light snooted to blast her from behind for that soft, glam, halo look. It's old school glam lighting, but then I'm sort of old school.
Of course, having a subject as pretty as Nikki to work with makes it all happen.

I just wanted to post the horizontal format portrait because like Scott's second shot above, horizontal portraits can work very well.
Look at the space to the left of Scott's model in the second shot...this space to me adds drama or a bit of "positive" tension...sort of like what used to be called "negative space".
The turn of the model's head toward the space directs the eye from the space, to the head...it leads the eye to the subject.

Bottom line, Scott's second photo photographically, trips my switch!
My 2 Kronar's worth on it.

This space for witty quote like "silwee wabbit"

Thanks Vic.

In true garage glamour style this was shot ala Kevyn Major Howard in the garage of my home. Lighting was the big yellow ball in the sky. The catch lights are created by the relfection of the concrete driveway. I used a plain cotton sheet for a BG hung some 12 feet behind Misti. I also had a 42" white round at her waist level to get some light up in her eye sockets.

Thanks Paul. I like the rim lighting in your shot. Makes the hair really pop!

She does indeed have a very pretty face. The second was shot with the 70-200 which yeilds a bit more contrast than the 180 prime. I must admit to 'borrowing' the technique from Kevyn Major Howard. I'm also inspired by JT's work here. I'm working on it
