So I found out 1 hour before my shoot that my MUA decided that drinking all night was more fun that helping me out. I know I wasn't paying so that is on me but really an e-mail 1 hour before the shoot isn't that cool.

So we soldiered on, great model, new and inexperienced (much like me) but with a great attitude. My best friend and assistant did her best to fill in for the MUA even though she had no experience.

So with all that said, I was happy that I got to shoot. Please tell me what I can do to improve things because I know it needs work, but I'm hoping I'm at least traveling on the right road.

Model is Laura

Pretty good. But what is that thing dangling between her legs?

I think that under the circumstances you were in you did an excellent job! Great pose, good make-up, great shot!

Great job Gary!..makeup too,...my personal preference would be to give it just a touch more contrast,..but that's just me.
One other little nit, is the bright spot under her nose, maybe tone it down some? I'm just a beginner, but it looks to me like you captured the Chiaroscuro effect very nicely on her face.

That thing is unfortunately part of the sword, but I agree that the placement is less than desirable. Definitely one of my issues with the photo.

Thank you so much.

Your portfolio is fantastic. Some day I'll figure out why there are so many amazing models in the south when I don't find quite as many here in "not so" sunny northern california.

good catch on the spot under the nose. I missed that. thank you though. I do tend to have trouble deciding on contrast level. I have lately gone slightly less and slightly less saturation. I guess it has just felt right.

I've been trying to figure that out for years now. Put in a long shift in the Dallas area, many years back, and never saw so many gorgeous women.

As to not-so-sunny Sacramento, just about killed myself in the heat working there this past summer during that extended 105+ streak.

The secret in Sacramento is that during the winter we save all that sun up by having months of gray days. Then starting in about May we turn off the gray and then go to 100 degrees for a few months. We don't bother with all those silly seasons.

Well I have to make my first post here after lurking for a week and say hi to a fellow Sacramentan (is that a word?).
