I'm not sure where to find this information (so that I can prep the images for the portfolio).

The other bit of info I can't find is the pixel/file size limits for link inclusions to postings in the forums. As those are not stored on the GG servers (just the links to other places) I would suppose there are no limits other than common sense. So how big do people feel comfortable with?

If this is in the wrong forum, I apologize.

I believe that's 600 pixels on the longest side, 150kb. As far as images linked from other servers, there is no limit from GG, but I'd still use a size that fits comfortably on a monitor. Somewhere around 800 pixels high on a vertical image fits nicely on my monitor, and it's not too big, either.

Hope this helps!

Typed too fast for me, Sam. I was about to say the same thing but was off double-checking a few Lifetimer 'folios to make sure my recollection was correct. LOL

What Sam said, RH.

Nah, happens quite often and saves me the typing!

The REAL bugger is when I and another member respond at the same time and we essentially say the same thing ... lol ... I always think there are people reading those later and thinking "Hey, he just echoed what the other guy did!"

But if that's the worst we run into during a visit here online -- we're way ahead of the game.

Thanks.

I can see that I'm going to have to set up an action in PS to generate various copies of the same image with differing pixel/file sizes. I frequent a few other sites and everyone seems to have different maximums.

As to the photos from links I'll see about keeping them to 800 high max. I want to have details available without degrading the images too much.

If you post to your GG portfolio an image taller than 600 pixels and larger than 150kb it will automatically make it fit the constraints. It doesn't do a great job of that so I would suggest that you do it yourself with PS.

As for posted pictures - they are coming from your online stored images (Photobucket, PBase to name a few) and nothing is changed in those images.

I think there are probably a lot of 17" monitors and laptops out there, and not necessarily used at full resolution even then. Personally, on the equipment and settings I use, I will keep the pixel height on the image to 450 so I can see it without scrolling (and this is with the address bar turned off on the browser.

Also with files that exceed my monitor's field horizontally, all the text goes the full width also and I have to constantly scroll left and right, which can be really annoying with long series of posts especially.

Thanks to the previous poster who mentioned photobucket - I was looking for such a site with direct links.

With my 17" monitor at 600x800res, I can see an image 600px in height without scrolling if I maximize my browser.
Hope that helps.

Since 67% of all persons currently viewing things in browsers are using a resolution of 1024x768 or lower (800x600 is next most popular), this means that a 800 pixel image will not fit and the viewer with have to scroll to see the whole image. For 1024x768 an image size of 600 pixels high is about the max you can use without the viewer having to scroll to see the whole image. As to width, it appears that about 750 wide is about right. Much wider than that and the visitor has to scroll right to left, and it also plays games with the Edit menu above the post pox. Here is a image that is 750 wide:

Here is one that is 575 pixels high:

Test those on your monitor. If you are using a higher resolution that 1024x768, try switching it for a moment down to that res and check out what you see.

Cheers,
rfs
