A buddy of mine is looking to sell some of his equipment. I don't have a complete list but I'm curious where he is on his pricing for his 20d

Canon 20d with dual battery pack charger, software,¬*and 18-55mm lens¬*1200.00

The camera is about a year old, and in very good condition. I'm not sure of the number but knowing the way he shoots I'd say it has somewhere around 10,000-12,000 shots logged on it.

Any comments?

To me it's not that great of a deal when brand new with zero frames can be purchased for 1300-1500. Is the lens part of the camera kit that came with it?

Maybe a 1,000 to 1,100 would be a good price. I am sure it is in good condition.....

Not an outstanding price. You can get a new 20D (body only), with the rest of the goodies for about $1200 after rebate right now. The double battery charger is nice to have though.

If it were me, I'd pay just a little more to get a brand spankin' new one. Might as well get the benefit of the full warranty.

Actually, I've got approval from the spouse to upgrade cameras. As much as I'd love to get a 20D, I want to wait and see if a replacement gets announced in Feb/march. Canon often starts inching prices down and offering rebates just before new products come out. OTOH, rather than waiting on a camera that will probably be in the $1500-$1600 range, I could just get the very capable 20D for $1200 now. Oh what to do, what to do....

I'll agree with the others about price. With a little online searching you can find similar new for under $1,500 with the only exception being the charger but, though nice, not the most critical piece.

I am curious however about life expectancy for something like a 20d, which I have. What would be a reasonable number of snaps for the shutter mech, or sensor frame before servicing/replacment and what preventive care might prolong failure?

Thanks, JK

used 20D's are going for anywhere from $900-$1100 and you DON'T want that lens...
