INTERNATIONAL FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHERS ORGANIZATION:Just found their web site yeaterday. Anyone out there know anything about them? Is that a legitimate organization? If so, what good would come from belonging to that group?

I'm a member. Lifetime, for what that is worth. They sell different videos at outrageously high prices. They sell various forms at outrageously high prices. They sell posing guides and other stuff at outrageously high prices. They will also sell you a huge variety of "press credentials" at outrageously high prices. They sell "model scout" various "credentials" at outrageously high prices. They sell a variety of other stuff at outrageously high prices. Their shipping/handling charges are also outrageously high. The main appeal of IFPO seems to be using their "credentials" to get into events or be taken seriously by beginner models. I am not impressed by the quality of their products. And I still laugh over one of their 'instructional' videos in which the narrator refers to a model having an "aloft" (sic) attitude. (He probably meant "aloof.")

They are pretty much a laughing stock in the mainstream industry. Their "press credentials" are worthless, well, they will get you into places you could get into anyway. Their main job seems to to be selling things to the gulible.

So, how are their prices for videos, forms, posing guides, press credentials, etc?

We were told at school to stay away from them unless you had money to burn.

"So, how are their prices for videos, forms, posing guides, press credentials, etc?"

I've no idea what videos they offer, but I can't believe they would be a good investment. Forms? Most are available for free, just ask on this foruma and someone will have them or at least a source for them. Press credentials? Theirs will absolutely get you into event you could get into just by asking. Serious/major events issue their own specific press credentials folllowing a letter from a serious media organization. At a big time music event in Atlanta, I once saw a legitimate CNN on air/talking head type guy turned away because his name had accidently been left off of the list. He eventually got in, but only after an hour long wait while phone calls were made. Any event which will accept their press credentials is an event which you could get into simply by contacting the event publicity people.

Back when I was operating a commercial studio, I wrote out a letter for a model who was a major Elton John fan. The letterhead letter got her backstage and she was stopped only at his dressing room door. Their press credentials would not even have gotten her backstage.

Save your money!
