I just returned home from shooting the Spurs vs Pacers game (Spurs won of course) and I'm going through my images to submit for publication (with sports, you have a fast filing deadline), and I found the first image below that puzzles me, as I have to write captions and I'm not sure on this one image.

Rule number one when shooting sports, never get caught up the game or you'll mess the shots. I got caught up in the game and forget when I took this and why.

With that said, I don't remember, of all the images I shot, when I took this. It appears that Tony is throwing the ball out toward the other end of the court as his back is toward the goal. Don't remember, but your explanation is valued, thanks, rg sends!

(All images, available light, ISO 800, Camera E-1 w/35-100mm F/2.0 lens. White-balance at 4000K, Lexar Media 2GB card)
(Image in Question)

Other images shot tonight (answer only on the first image), these are going to submission for publication (keep in mind, you're looking at a monitor version, the images looks better in print)

I don't have an explanation for what's going on, but...

Can't you go by image file number to tell when in the game it was?

If not, can't you go by the time stamp in the exif data, and compare that to game start time?

I would think that one of those two ways should at least get you into which quarter it was...

Things I'm sure you've already thought of, but thought it worth mentioning.

There is a guy named "Darren" who I am familiar with who is the team photog, who covers all the Spurs games.. He might have been sitting next to you with the Pocket Wizzard..

Good luck..

A suggestion for next time..

After each event you shoot, take a shot of that scoreboard...that way, you have all the info for your slug, like the quarter, the score, the time remaining...along with your shot, or series.

Best of luck..

Looks to me like the ball is coming TO Parker, who will then pivot and drive to the hoop. At least looking at the facial expressions on the Pacer players I'm sure they are on defense and concerned about the incoming pass.

Nice set of images, Rolondo. Have you started using knee pads yet? I can well remember how shooting from the endline can wreck havoc on the old patellas.

Having not been there, It's hard to say, but having played many sports it looks like to me Parker has passed the ball back out of the lane. Parker's body position says he's off balance and his left hand looks like it is in the post throwing position.
Indiana here is definitely in a defense position.

Hope this helps a little.

The ball is being lobbed into Parker in the high post and #1 is turning around to double team him. Parkers hands are just raising up to receive the ball. Ken.

Great shots!

I spent 15 years shooting for a news paper and loved shooting sports the most. I do miss it, but no the low pay.
