What are the most common types of backdrops people are using out there? As I'm still in the infancy stages of photography, I'm always curious to know how others are doing things compared to myself. I have been shooting with some muslin backdrops (mainly cause they are portable), but then I have to deal with the whole issue of wrinkles. Many of the posts I see have these incredibly smooth and even tones to them. I can only assume that's cause of the use of paper.

Do most of you out there use paper?

I use paper 95% of the time. I prefer to use the different colors, as I am not very fond of casting gels on the backdrop.

I use fabrics, though I've been trying to do more without backgrounds, just using my apartment.

I prefer paper to muslin but I have to agree with Josh, natural backgrounds make the most interesting images.
