My family is REAL big on Christmas like many others I'm sure. I am needing to provide ideas of what they can get me for Christmas. Now understanding these will be smaller items (not Hensel studio setups) can anyone suggest those items that you just might not think about til you need it...

Any trinkets, novelty items, gadgets, widgets, gizmos...anything you can suggest to offer ideas would be helpful. I pretty much have every thing I need that I can think of...but there has got to be an item or two that YOU find useful that can be passed along...

The "warm cards" are nice:

or a black/white/gray calibration target:

These are items that are quite useful. I use the 14" calibration target all the time. Here is what mine looks like in action:

So you can see that it is useful and a lot of fun.

Another neat item is a software item for creating collages. The one I use is like having a magician at your side (cost $89 for Pro version):

Here is an example:

OK Rog...you already talked me into buying that... prob is, I find it difficult to create the collages you seem to come up with...Is there a manual that can be downloaded or is it pretty much trial and error

Actually they have a wonderful guide to using the product here:

http://www.lumapix.com/pages/Tutoria...n%20Depth.html

Just pick the subject and you see and hear a live presentation on using the feature. I actually just sat and watched every section at one point. Every once in a while I'd stop, load the product and experiment with what they had just shown. By the end I was an expert.

Cheers,
rfs

When in doubt ... CompactFlash cards are little presents that keep on giving. Can never have too many of those blank canvases in your bag.

Books - both "coffee table" collections and "how to", although you might need to get specific on either of those. Music CD's to shoot by, lens brush, microfiber cleaning cloths, issues of photographic magazines - particularly foreign publications.

Edmund Scientific sells some interesting optical gadgets - diffraction gratings, filters, multi-lensed Frensel "sheets", etc. Some interesting effects, if you're into that. They're on-line.

Happy Holidays
