...this company? Fresh Flava Entertainment. This is their website http://www.freshflava.com/ They want me to do an ad for a jewelry company. Also, I have never done any images for an ad campaign before, so I was wondering what I should charge. Thanks for any advice.

Having shot lots of jewelry, I always thought you had great structure and complexion to model fine silver or platinum jewelry... maybe white gold. Yellow gold's going to be tough for you cuz of your light complexion... wear black.

Unfortunately, most of what I shoot is either modeled by big burly bikers and 55 plus year-old women... all semi-professional, working for product instead of cash... or it's not being worn at all.

...so I have no idea what you should charge. Depending on the market, the photographer's going to be getting license fees of about $400 to $500 per 1/4 page image for catalogs and maybe $100 to $200 more than that for a 1/4 page national magazine ad. Shooting fees and expenses would be in addition to that... which is where your fee comes in. Typically, you would be paid by the client same as the shooter. Nowadays most big catalog advertisers use in-house photographers to bring that cost way down; it's a tough market at the high volume end. Magazine ads and smaller direct mail retailers on the other hand, are damn good business.

I've never heard of FreshFlava Entertainment, can't offer you much there either. The website's a little rough, but that could just be them being too busy to maintain it. It does have a marketing focus though. See if you can contact their Art Director to find out more about the project and the budget.

It's your month for the contest, you got my vote.

Good luck,
Chip

I looked at the site. Heavy in hype, empty of facts, references, verifiability. Never heard of the guys purportedly running the thing. Don't remember--I haven't lived in DC in years -- what kind of neighborhood their claimed address is. I also note that they ask a $25 "application" fee for "talent" trying to get into their supposed movies under production. I am also curious why they are hunting around the internet for a jewelry model rather than checking out the legit agencies in Wash., DC. Also what on earth their purported jewelry has to do with their purported purpose as a movie production company. I'm thousands of miles away, and my nose is wrinkling. Has anyone close to you suggested that if you go there, you take an armed Marine or two with you? Or a platoon?

never heard of them. but they sure can't spell! here's the headline on their site:

"DAWN" LEAD SINGER FOR THE GROUP UNITING-THE-ELEMENTS FINISHING A SONG TO A STANDING NOVATION AS SHE PROFORMS AT A CONCERT IN LONDON!

someone tell me what a "standing novation" is? it either sounds like something catholics do during mass, or something to do with astronomy. and isn't "proform" a bra from playtex?

Well, when I first got the email from them it sent up red flags in my mind, so I sent them back an email asking all kinds of questions like where would I have to go for this, who the company was that this would be for and do you have any references that I can contact. They sent me an email back saying that I would have to fly out to California for the job, they wouldnt tell me who the client is and they gave me an email for someone at impressionmanagement.net. This all seems a little fishy to me. I think I should just pass on this one just to be on the safe side. Thanks for the advice.

All sounds kind of crazy to me. The guy that "owns" the impressionmanagement dot NET domain, listed his emails as michael at impressmanagment dot COM (no ION in Impression and he put COM in there). Must be the bad speller mentioned?

Also, ImpressionManagement dot NET has a "sister" site called UModels dot COM. They are in New York, New York.

FreshFlava and UModels were both registered through Register, both in 1999, but ImpressionManagement was registered thru WildWest, in 2003. Impressionmanagement and UModels both use the same Name Server (Host site), but FreshFlava uses someone else (Register)

If you was all related, wouldn't ya have your stuff in the same place, and/or register in the same place, and wouldn't ya be able to spell, especially your own email?
