What current book on portrait photgraphy (not limited to glamour) would you recommend?

Well, it depends a lot on who you intend to photograph.

Even limiting the scope to only portraits (head shots) leaves open a wide range of approaches. Do you want the ultra realistic edginess of say Avedon, or a softer more romantic approach a la Robert Farber, or something else entirely?

Give us an idea of the person to be photographed, and we can probably narrow it down a bit. Or do you just want a general approach to portraits book?

I'm a big fan of the Amherst Media books. I'll have to go pull mine off the shelfto get the title, but any of their portrait books are good referances.
