Hey All,

While I am waiting on my 1D N I have decided to go pick up a 20 d today. I was conidering keepin the s3 as a back up but decided I am goin to dump it. Any thoughts on the 20 d would help. Another Nikon (nikon based platform) user bites the dust. All hail the canon gods!!

Ciao,
M

yes...I see that....my question is and I may be starting controversy is why if a camera is merely a box that collects light (or a hammer), are soooooooooo many people using the same hammer? I think in the old day a camera WAS a box. Today...its a computer, with sensor chips and proprietory processing algorythms and electronic technology. Its not about whos focal plan shutter is built better anymore because the "mechanical" parts of todays camera's are dayum near a thing of the past. Nikon has dropped us on their heads. The fuji s3 pro that I am currently getting rid markets itself as a 12 mg camera. In fact...its interpolated to get there. I can do that with PS. So...the moral is I spent 2700 for a body only to get a 6.2 mp camera. Lesson learned.

Just my .02..but opinions are like a holes....everyone has one.

Oh yeah, when speaking of digital, I do think a body isn't just a body anymore. People will be upgrading their cameras like they do their computers, for better or worse. I haven't kept up with the technology enough when it comes to digicams to know a whole lot about it, but I dunno, a lot of S3 users seem to be happy with them. But whatever floats yer boat is fine with me.

I guess I'll just stay neutral and use my Contax.

I recently upgraded my S2 to a S3 but I did very seriously consider going canon(1DS). Could you share what factors convinced you to make the switch? Did you find better tonal range, better color, or sharper image? I am always interested in peoples thought process behind equipment selections.

Thanks alot
Alvin

Hey Alvin,

I will be happy to share with you what I think, what I feel and what I know. I know that for my tates..most of the peoples work whom I admire and love shoot canon. I know that Fuji has in less than 10mths since the s3 came out dropped its price by 1,000( a bad sign in you consider the 20d is holding strong). I know that I personally do not like the raw images that come out of the camera (and I mean I shoot in raw). I find them to cumberson to work with and there is perpetual inconsistancy. The camera shoots way to red...Im no expert at photoshop or color correction. I know that for all intense and purposes the 2700 that I spent on a "12 mgp" camera is STILL a 6.2 mg camera. Now....in its defense..the color quality when shooting jpeg is great, the skin tones look decent and there are those like JT and James Weber who get INCREDIBLE images out of it and they swear by it. I am also reasonably certain that they have been shooting Fuji since its inception and understand and know the work arounds for the camera. I beleive the film modes are a gimmic. I have tried the s2 film mode on people and needless to say it makes them look jaundice at best. Since I dont shoot landscapes..film mode 2 is usless to me. The black and white function is cool..but I find it better to shoot in color and then convert to bw..bw mode looses to much informtion to make an impact as far as I am concerned...maybe its poor lighting on my part..I dont know. I am no expert on lighting so that in of itself maybe part of the problem (im reasonably sure it is). I am curious how much work JT and James does in PS. Prolly not alot but again...im no ps expert. And last but not least....IMHO for everthing I have read (and I read alot) it all points to canon being the best system on the Market. Just ask Andy P...he has/had shot nikon for 30 yrs..with all the glass Im sure he owned..he could have gone Fuji..but he jumped ship to canon. I admire Andy P incredibly...and for him to jump to canon? Case closed...so I blame him for putting the last nail in the coffin....lol. I am now the proud owner (as of an hour ago) of a canon 20 D with a Mark II 1D N on the way.
