Yes, that's right. Insurance says I'm SOL. So I'm trying to figure out my next step. With Christmas coming money's a little tight for me to buy a new camera. The film camera I had as a backup died a while back and I didn't really care at the time so it's not an option. I guess I'm down to my ancient XG-1's. They'll have to do until the new year. Thankfully I have nothing planned photography wise that I can't put off. When the time does come I think I'm going back to Canon. They have been excellent through all of this.

You could try to hook up with StMarc, we was trying to get people together to combine rebates by placing one order. He wants a camera, so if you buy a camera and a lens you all could triple your rebates right there. Just a thought.

Sorry about your stuff. I'm not shooting near water soon.

Sean

A few years back I lost a nice film camera kit when a canoe capsized. I remember at the time the insurance guy made a big deal if I was sure the canoe capsized or if it just sunk. I guess I must have said the right thing because I was able to buy my first D30 with the settlement. I am sorry about your loss. Good cameras and lenses are more then just tools to me. I really become attached to them and hate to mess them up.

First, let me say that I'm sure there are differences in insurance coverage between the US and Canada. That said, many insurance companies say "it's not covered" the first time. They did it to me on a larger claim several years back. A friend, who was an adjuster, suggested I make my claims adjuster show me in my policy where my claim was specifically excluded. In short, the adjuster couldn't and ended up paying the claim. Make sure you keep politely pushing the adjuster, they may change their mind.

Good luck whichever way it goes.

Man that sucks. I think you should review your policy, just to see if there is specifics about this case. You might want to contact the insurance auditor just to be sure, ask for specifics. I understand your pain, I once had a camera stolen out of my home. I think what Mr. Ronmark said puts it pretty good, also kind of explains something into all of the Nikon vs. Canon debates.

I'm in a similar situation. My camera was stolen two weeks ago here in Dallas. I've done everything I can to track it down to no avail, even put an ad in the classifieds just in case some honest person came across it (fat chance). I'm not able to replace it at this time, so I'm having to take some time off from my photography. I've been helping out as a photographer's assistant and MUA, and modeling of course when I have the time, but my true passion is photography. I tell you - if I wasn't getting paid for the above, it would be sheer torture. That camera was an extention of me.

Good luck with the insurance situation. I hope everything works out for the best. I wish I could help you more - but just know that you are never alone.
