Hi everyone,

I've been hibernating... studying actually... and haven't had time for much else. Anyways, I thought I'd post some new photos and get your opinions... almost everything in my GG folio is new. I'd love to hear what you think!! Thanks a bunch!

IMHO the one you put up is the best one you got in there. Also like the one in the white sweater, need more coffee in me to truly explain why.

Your main image is a little to much, needs to be less nuclear winter but the concept is nice.

Beautiful photography and outstanding modeling. In my view, there is little else to say.

Just an honest question for you. The model is beautiful but the photography-------isn't there too much dead space in the photo? Also isn't the model in the photo not close enough to be the main subject. It looks like trying to capture the cloth took away from the main subject here?

Everything in photography is subjective ...

... and this is certainly no exception. I can't speak for the photographer or for what was in his mind, I don't even know who shot it, so I can respond only as a viewer.

First, your question is certainly valid and I've no doubt others will agree with your point, but I see it a bit differently. What you described as "dead space", if we can descend into 'art speak' for a moment, is called "negative space". Negative space is an area inside the frame of a photo with no detail, no content, it's negative. When used correctly, the negative works to lead the viewer's eye toward the positive, toward the image's center of interest. I believe that is what is happening in that photo.

Second possible complaint, that the model is off center, close to the left edge and looking out of the frame. Many might say that leads the viewer's eye out of the frame. But as I see the image, that is perfectly balanced by the negative space, leaving us with a highly dynamic image. That gives us two intentional 'errors' which I believe balance each other in a very positive way. Maybe it's a good example of the "rules" being broken by someone who knows the rules and how to manipulate or massage them.

As an added complication, what is the real center of interest, the model or the fabric? In this particular shot, is it a photo of the model or is the model simply a mannequin for the fabric? That's one of the differences between true glamour and fashion or commercial photography. In fashon and commercial print work, the model is usually only a prop used to draw interest to the actual product being photographed.

Finally, about that negative space. Ad people simply love it because it gives them a perfect place to insert their text.

Again, I have no idea what the photographer was thinking or whether there was specific use in mind for the image. I think the image stands on its own, regardless. It's a complex image and as I said above, it's highly subjective, but that's the way I see it.

Here's another with just a bit of negative space.
