actually, we're still shooting. mika's changing wardrobe. my client needs the green BG cuz of how it works with their artwork. so i thought i'd add a green gel to a kicker to kinda tie the BG to the model. i think it kinda works. here's mika. i just grabbed one quickly while we're taking a few minutes.

Beautiful girl.

Nice, high-impact image.

If they're going to use the green to drop in another background, wouldn't your green gel cause problems?

they don't use the green as a "key" to composite something else in... they use it as the BG color... they sorta do this "matrix thing" and add the machine language numbers around her. the green gets saturated a little... and brightened... but its not used to replace with another image.

Thanks for the info.

The hue works really well with her skin tone, and while I wouldn't ordinarily think a green gel would be complementary, here I think it is.

I gotta agree with John (actually rarely don't). She's a real beauty and your work is expectedly good. Thanks for sharing.

The green skin on her right side bothers me. I have only shot with gels once and hated it for that fact. Unless the model is in the perfect spot, you get that color on their skin and I think it looks horrible. I wasted a perfectly good outfit and 20 minutes with a model and didn't use a single photo because that damn gel turned her skin purple on the side the light was on. Is it acceptable to use photos like that? I didn't think it was.

i use gels fairly frequently, but usually, like many other shooters here, I use warming gels like CTO or Bastard Amber when i'm shooting glamour. Sometimes I'll us a blue gel for a hairlight-- but mostly, when i do so, on women of (fairly dark) color. Other colors I sometimes use are done for specific effects.

for this shoot, the green is part of the art direction based on the DVD jewel-case artwork the company (i was shooting for) requires. in the past, for this particular account, i haven't used the green gel tho they require me to use the green BG. (the finished artwork has a "matrix" look to it.) but in their finished product I've noticed the graphic artist lets some of the green bleed onto the model... intentionally. i thought it would look better if i intentionally used green as a subtle highlight. this way, if they like it, it won't look like a photoshop "bleed" in the finished product. if they don't like it, no big deal as i also shot the series without the green gel. it was simply more work for the model and i. since neither of us gets paid by the hour, the client risks nothing by me undertaking this little experiment. and if they like it, i'm dubbed a photo-genius. it was really a "no lose" situation for me.

She's pretty enough to have some women, Green with envy. I like the look of a hot exotic woman in black leather. Or pleather.
