krista came over to pick up a dining table from me and asked if she could see my new light (alien bees 1600) so i pulled it out threw on the shoot through 48" umbrella and took about 10 shots. this girl never wears makeup, shes a winner. its my first time using the light really... im happy.

A beautiful picture, of a beautiful woman. A small suggestion, though, when using only one light...try bumping up the ambient light in the room so that the pupils aren't so dilated. Nice work. Good pose, and nice soft light.

ya thats actually the first thing i caught when i put these on my laptop. this was a spur of the moment thing to try out my light and total setup to break down was no more than 15 minutes! i'll make sure to look next time and make the appropriate adjustments because i agree with you on the pupils.

thanks for feedback!

I love this shot! I keep coming back to look at it.
The B & W, lighting, tone, the model's look and minimal hair/make up styling. Clean and simple.
The dilated pupils do draw my attention. Would like to see them a little smaller to see more tone around the pupil.
Great shot!

Another trick is to go to Home Depot and buy a 150watt modeling light for the AB. I like the Philips Halogena version. You can also turn off power tracking on the modeling lamp so it shines full power. That usually helps. If I'm going for more of a low key look, then I just crank up the shutter to 1/500 (max sync on my D70) and bring in more lamps for ambient. Just watch the white balance when mixing strobe and incandescent sources.

Oh yeah, shoot more images of her. She's very attractive!!!

Tim, When you two have more time, I think you guys should absolutely visit this idea again. She's beautiful without make-up and great for this kind of beauty shot. It reminds me of an Audrey Hepburn type shot. I think that had her pupils been less dialated, it would have been perfect.

not bad, but I would like to see the color version before I comment on her "never wearing make-up"

Bah...I dig the big pupils in black and white (I might, however, change my tune if it were in color)...They lend themselves to the dramatic effect, whether intended or not. I'd actually almost like to see the catchlights muted or even removed...

I dig the whole image, very nicely done.
