Here's Tonia in a weird, freaky situation: outdoors! Eeeek! I'm having a devil of a time with post processing on these, mostly because of the color cast, which is totally, randomly different than what I'm used to. Yeah, I let the camera auto white balance, even though I knew better, and I'm now regetting it profoundly...

Meanwhile, Tonia was, as ever, an absolute delight to work with, and she's definitely looking to work with more Austin photographers...

Assuming you have PS.
This image has a clear cut white so using the color sampler tool select a spot that is white without being a part of a specular high light. Now create a levels adjustment layer. in the open layers dialog double click the white eyedropper tool. This will bring up a dialog. click the eyedropper over the selected white spot. Notice the lab section of the dialog box. set the a and the b sections to zero and click okay. Now once again click the selected spot. Voila a white white. close the levels box and donot save the new colors as default. You will find you migh have to adjust the image for contrast and or saturation but I do thos in separate adjustment layers.

Okay, that's MUCH less cumbersome than the way I was doing it, but now I've mostly lost the effects of the shade, which I kinda liked... Regardless, you're my new hero, until further notice!

Definitely a learning experience. I know how to make it work with film, but then, the film is color balanced to begin with... :P

Well, I keep living, but the learning seems a little slower, somehow...

go to the mask and paint the background as it was. Many people seem to forget that little box and how usefull it is. As I explained before you might want to add curves and Hue Sat layers to make further adjustments. I find these three layers so useful I have an action that will apply all three with one keystroke. I may not use but one of them but it beats having to go back and adding each as needed.
