I heard an interesting story today.

A model from Canada was shooting on a beach in Florida. They were doing implied nudes. ( top off but hands covering)

A local lady was upset by this and called the cops, who then arrested the model, and took her to the police station. She has been charged with something like being nude in public.

The photographer was not charged.

There is likely more to this story that I don't know about.

So my question to you guys who shoot on Florida beaches, do you take responsibility if their is an issue with law enforcement? What would you do in a similar situation?

The model will always take the hit. The law looks at who is breaking the law, not the one directing.

I would say there is either more to the story, or someone pissed off the cops. I have been busted 3-4 times this year and never had an issue. But the cops did tell me that we could both be arrested, not sure what they would charge me with. Undoing the straps is ot against the law in itself, otherwise every girl on the beach that unties her top to aviod tan lines would be in trouble. Now on the other hand, not to overlook this, if the lady that complained was throwing a fit the cops might have been a little more aggressive. Who knows, there are always several sides to the story, bummer though.

I can believe it! Unfortunantly, most our beautiful sugar-white beaches in northwest Florida are right in the middle of the southern Bible belt. I know of several folks who have been harassed by the cops and one MD who has been arrested for "nudity" while on a local nude beach. Prohibition ended 70 years ago, but here in Santa Rosa County,Florida, we only last week passed a referendum to be able to sell drinks by the glass in restaurants! Thank God I am lucky enough to have a boat where we can work on our tan lines without the local puritans butting in!

that is why I shoot early or late and during the week. Less people less chance of getting any trouble. I have had one or two visits from the cops but things never got to the point of anyone being charged with anything. I work for the GOV and after they see my ID and I shoot the sh_t with them they give me a break..

If her top was off, that's nude. Nothing implied about it; hands or not.

You may not agree with the laws, but they do exist. If you want to shoot nude on the beach, shoot at a nude beach. The beautiful thing about America is that communities are allowed to set their own standards. Aside from the big stuff like murder, rape, grand theft auto, etc...communities set different standards. If you don't agree with the standards in your area, work to get them changed or leave the area. The choice is yours.

As to the original question, I take no responsibility for my model's actions...but I also wouldn't have asked her to do something illegal (public nudity).

Florida is a big state, and as others have mentioned as with all states it's a good idea to know the local law. Fort Lauderdale (as an example) has a problem with thongs, as do many communities in Florida.

Fortunately I don't live in Florida, I live in South Beach. Most girls wear one piece suits here.....and they get to pick which piece (top or bottom). The local police do gather when we are shooting, mostly to provide crowd control. Of course I'm not allowed to go topless, but only because of that incident when I tried to get a suntan down at South Point. I was laying out when the nice folks from GreenPeace came along and tried to roll me back into the water. It got ugly.

Still, when I wear the pink thong it's my money shot. (Butt never in Fort Lauderdale!)

Most cops are pretty cool about stuff like that, especially if you aren't flaunting it (them?) around. But I agree, there's more to the story. Either that, or some bureaucrat is flexing his brown-nosing muscles following Dubya's emphasis on cracking down on porn.

Do you inform the models before hand that what you are going to sk them to do is illegal? Have you every had anyone not pose with you when they heard that?

I am sure there is more to the story ( there always is.) Are your models aware that they may be arrested for what you are asking them to do? Do they care?
