Im getting ready to do a layout for a local Tattoo parlor. Other than your basic "Tattoo Body Shot", anyone have any shots that might give me some angle ideas?
Thanks Chuck

I've shot tattoos for television, and the stuff that really stood out in the edit were shot using a hard light on a close up of the artwork with a black background. I also used really shallow depth of field to focus the attention on the the ink. The black background and deep shadows on the body parts really made the color pop and you have a great sense of depth.

The general consensus was that a little mystery with light and shadow and avoiding any blatent nudity looked more artistic in this context - more art and less exhibition.

Sounds like a fun gig.

I thing a small ringflash, like the macro kind, could look pretty cool. Kinda late 90's fashion/glamour meets tattoos? I dunno, just throwing it out there.

I've done some work for my artist in the past, and the black background and skillful use of shadows is really great advice. Also, oil up the inked area to make the colors really pop out. Of course, you'll have to be careful with the lights to keep the glare off of the oil, but it can be done, and it'll be worth it! Have fun, and post your results!
