Change your bait. I use a 5'9" blonde named Angie as "bait". When they see you are with an attractive woman already, they don't immediately assume they're going to end up in the trunk of a 1989 Buick LeSabre.

I let Angie do all my talkin'.

I think it's all in the approach. Approaching models can be difficult in any environment, but "entertainers" can be exceptionally jaded. The upside is, if you have a good shoot with one, the news travels quickly and can lead to others.

[/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely. I try to let my portfolio do the talking. When the girls see my shots and see for themselves that I'm not trying to shoot pure porn it makes a big difference.

Love the platinum blonde with the black coat, it almost looks like an ad you'd see in one of those New Agey, modern witch kind of magazines.

Very good point, if you can have one of your models do some of the talking for you it helps a lot. Having shot one of the dancers already I've found it kind of gives me an "in" with all the other girls.

Here is the thing.... And this applies to a girl in a strip club or a girl in the mall or anywhere else that you approach a potential model. There are a few things that you are going to be judged on...

1. Appearance... No explanation needed here
2. Are you speaking professionally or are you rambling on and acting like you are just after a pretty girl. In the sales world we have a motto...The first 10 words out of your mouth are more important the the next 10,000.
3. Body language... Do you appear confident and professional or do you seem like some perv that keeps staring at her chest?
4. DO you have professional looking business cards with all pertinent info on the card?
5. Your book... is it a little dollar store album with crappy 4 x6 prints from the local drugstore or is it a professional looking album with professional looking images in it. My smallest book is an 8x10 and I usually have my 11x17 book with me. My wife usually has a 4x6 book of my images with her so that she can talk to people as well.

6. Quality of your work... Do your shots look like a professional took them or do they look like a bunch of snapshots. Sometimes we forget that quantity doesnt equal quality. I see people with their "book" all the time that may have 40 -60 4x6 images and there are 5-10 images of each model and in some cases several of the same image with different PS effects applied to them. It has been said before that if you cant demonstrate your abilities in 10-15 images then you are never gonna...

The thing about it is, that you would have to become somewhat of a regular so that the ladies would get to know you a little. Otherwise you might as well go to the mall and ask strangers.

That's pretty much how I was able to approach the ladies in one club. The owner was a friend of mine and asked if I would shoot the girls in different outfits in a closed area of the club. One of the ladies approached me for a nude shoot for her boyfriend and I got manyy referals from her.

Another note: My sister graduated fro Santana HS. there in Santee. How long have you been there?

We bought our house here in Santee in 1991. We're getting ready to put it on the market again. We're moving to Tennessee to retire.

This is so true. I've never asked a dancer to pose for me at our first encounter. Ususally the second or third. You have to be able to "read" them a little. If they seem to lack any interest in your business as a photographer, don't bother asking.
