I feel like the village idiot when discussing "chromes" as I have shot very little of it, but I went through an "Ed Konkle" phase where I shot Kodak 100SW trying to emulate that golden glow he was known for.

I read horror stories about it and how "hard" it was to shoot good chromes.

I was meticulous and carefull in my metering and really had no problems.

Within a third of a stop? I don't know.

I know that what I shot looked fine and I bracketed heavily in both directions on my first couple of rolls to see how far I could push it and figured out the offset between my flash meter and what I was getting (I took notes) and could judge when I was within latitude.

Of course, I was shooting in a studio where I had control of everything. Outside I suppose it could be tough.

But from the standpoint of setting up the lights and taking a shot, and then slightly bumping up the lights, yeah, I think I could do it.

Why do you ask?

I would agree with some of the others that processing or variation in stock probably accounts for a bigger swing.

On 35mm and 2 1/4 I can expose to 1/3 of a stop. On 4x5 I can expose to 1/5 of a stop.

I think so. When I shot chromes I would adjust for underexposure to get deeper skin tones, or over exposure to get a bit of a blown out look... I usually adjusted up and down by 1/2 stop to get the look I wanted.
