So I was at Dragon*Con in Atlanta all weekend. Dragon*Con is the nation's largest Sci-Fi, fantasy, anime convention in the country. Every Labor Day weekend, close to 35,000 attendees invade Atlanta's Hyatt, Marriott, and Hilton. (more Klingons than you can shake a lightsaber at) and most go through the art show at least once to check it out. That's cool. (Besides, they ALL have money...D*C is like their pilgramage each year.)

Back in May, I was chosen to display my artwork at the prestegious Juried Dragon*Con Art Show this year. There are thousands of artist applicants each year, however, with the limited hanging space available, only about 150 are accepted. (This was my first time applying.)

I grew tired of seeing the same artwork year after year...images of chicks with swords, fairies riding on dinosaurs, or sexy pin-ups with some kind of wizard drawn in the background...???...so I decided to do something different for a change. I wanted to give a little something to all the different groups that come to this con.

And then it happened:
Sunday night at the Art Show Awards Banquet, I recieved the award for "Best Photography" in the entire art show. Way cool.

Not only kinda cool on the resume, but:
1.) I never have to go through a juried competion at Dragon*Con again.
2.) I received free membership to some Science Fiction/Fantasy Art Association (still haven't figured that one out yet)
3.) I don't have to pay for my art space next year.
4.) I am amoung the firsts to pick on where I want to exhibit in the show hall.

I sold three prints over the weekend and it must of been the interest surrounding them that put me over the top in the judging...
(each print signed, numbered, and limited run)

For the Star Wars geeks...
Title: "Chew Hefner"
(sold at write in bidding)

For the Goth kids...

(sold - went to auction)

Everytime I see your name pop up, I have to go check it out. You have a phenominal style, wit and artistic format that I never get tired of seeing. Great work as always. Now I need to arm wrestle you out of some prints. LOL.. Have a great day. Again, KUTGW

.....to the smallest detail, just perfect! I absolutely love the cigarette butts on the floor. That last picture has fashion photographer written all over it.

At the risk of sounding like everyone else.. This is incredible work. Total attention to detail and great execution.. I particulary love the Star Wars one.

Timothy,
I am glad to see you here on GG. I had made contact with you maybe two years ago right after one of your Starlight drive-in shootouts. I really have to get to the next one!! I have admired your work since then and still do. You really have a gift for putting out great images. If you ever get out on the West side I will certainly buy the first round.

Chris

P.S. is it bad that I still own all of my D&D books??

Everytime I see "My Mom Made Me Take That Class" I am happy to see wit, glamour, fetish, and humor all rolled into one image. I wish I could have been there to bid on the print. That's one I want to have before you are all famous.

You were nice enough to show me your book at Cynthia's in Atlanta and the first two images that I have not seen simply rock.

You deserve to win.
