With the low angle of the sun, two things pop into mind.

Number one: a reflector would deem almost worthless, because it wouldn't give you enough bounce to balance the light with your background.

Number two: if the light was as low as I think it is, just face your model towards the light she probably wouldn't be uncomfortable looking towards the sun.

Andy Mac has made a career out of it, not a bad lead to follow.

Ahhhh thank you Jeff...the sun was setting beyond a hill...yes there are hills in kansas.....I wanted to capture her with her back to the setting sun...but most came out like silohuettes...unfortunately..the field was just off the side of the road....so turning her...I lost the field and got a dirt road and KDOT building....Kansas department of transportation ugggh!!
I did have a reflector that I tried to hold from my vantage point....but I could see it was providing no more light....so the key was to get it close..but just the two of us I could have rigged it up on my tripod...but the sun was setting so fast.......didnt have time.....what to do what to do..fill flash!! yeah!!! too bad I dont own one!! lol

I like what you got goin' on here too. Hmm, well other than reiterate what everyone's said already, I'll say that I actually like the color better in the first one... but you know what I'm thinking here? I'm picturing this wide open expanse of green field and this one small area of blue (DeAnn in the dress). Somebody around here said something to this effect (I wanna say it was DK, but I'm not for sure): Sometimes the model doesn't have to be the composition, but be part of the composition, if that makes any sense.
