Hello members,

I have a question for all members here. I am new to the glamour photography (done sports photography most of my life) and I am looking to see what is the best way to have photographs printed. I live in a small town, so I don't have big camera stores close by (closet is hour an half away), but I have been looking at some printers (the hp Photosmart 8750 or the Epson R1800 or the R2400). I was wondering how everyone else is getting their images printed. I have seen the prints from these printers and they are great. I spoke with other photographers (in my hometown) and they have some really good shots, but I swear to it, they just print images off a $200.00 printer and sell those images to customers. So any feedback from you all would be helpful.

hahahah...

Not sure if you have a Costco near you - but I would go to them for printing. They do digital C-Prints from either the Noritsu or Fuji Frontier machines - the same machines that prolabs use. You can download their printer profiles online and most often have prints from wallets, 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, 11x14, and all the way up to 12x18 printed within an hour. Sometimes next day - still the best deal in any town. Guess how much for an 11x14? $2.99 I know several of us use Costco for prints - and now they have online where you can upload them to the store, have them printed and they will notify you when they are ready - usually within an hour.

Good luck - just my suggestion. I print a lot off of the Epson machines all the way to the largest format prints. And for portfolio and client prints - I would go Costco all the way. It is the most economical and a beautiful quality and they are printed on Fujicolor Crystal Archive Paper. Luster or Gloss

My preference is Luster Just my 2 cents...

...I can download the printer profile from the Costco down the street which allows me full creative control over the printed image. Can't beat the cost either!

People sometimes raise their eyebrows when I tell them, then I show them prints and suddenly they gain respect.

Works for me!

You can still order them online with the same creative control - may just take a couple days. But, for the price especially when you order in bulk - the shipping and handeling is minimal. Well worth it.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I don't have a Costco, but maybe I can search around some similar places.

Yes they do. 'My' Costco responded to that question with 'as long as there is no touching'. I have submited a few and never had a problem...and the quality of the prints has been VERY good. Take the time to download the current profiles (they seem to update every few months) and get to know someone in the lab....it's a heck of a deal.

like mentioned below....Costco is awesome! I am very anal about my prints and the quality and costco lives up to it all. The price is unbeatable. I print 2 9x12's on one 12x18...cost per 9x12...$1.50!!! How great is that? To me the quality on the Noritsu machines is better than the frontier. Now they are doing 16x20's and 20x30's for $9.99 via their website! I have not had any of these done so I cannot comment on them yet, but I am very eager to have it checked out!

Everything of mine gets printed by the pro lab in town,...so I can shove it back at them and tell them to redo it if they screwed up the order, without the hastles of busting my balls with some geek out in CA regarding colour matching..or other issues.. I'm not so happy with online services lately..
