Robert Sanders' recent post reminded me of a struggle/problem/question/conundrum I'm having.

I have a very specific experimental lighting idea, from the begining I have envisioned this experiment as a nude shoot with one specific model. However the model doesn't pose nude. And while I respect and support her decision I can't really see any other model posing for this specific situation.

So given the specifics of this what would you do?

Try to talk the model into the artistic merit of the shoot even though she has specifically said no to posing nude for any reason?

Change the shoot to lingerie to suit the model?

Or use a different model?

find a different model. There is an old expression, "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear." It fits the truth [honesty] behind creating something that is suppose to happen in a proper, non-forced manner, low stress, and completely natural by its own design, rather than subjecting someone to undue pressure, who really doesn't want to create the shot. Always remember, it is about the photo, the image, not the relationship of whether a person does or doesn't have their clothes on. I am sure DK will support me in this, if a model likes [loves] being nude in front of the camera, then everything creative will happen as it is suppose to... fun and magical.

I wouldn't try to push a model into something she isn't willing to do. It would show thru the image and not be what you expected.
I like Robert's suggestion of finding a willing model as her attitude will make the image.

No problem here... Find a different model. I would never suggest trying to convince a model to do anything that you already know she doesnt want to do. First, as has been mentioned, the shots will show that she didnt really want to do it. 2nd, she will end up telling other potential models that you talked her into it and you will develop a reputation of a guy that just wants to get women naked in front of the camera and that will hurt you in a hurry. I always ask a model what her limits are in one of our first discussions and I never push those limits at all. One of the things that I am very proud of is that a potential model can talk to ANY model I have worked with and they will hear all very positive things about working with me. Even from the models back in the beginning when my shots werent so good at all the models will talk more about how much fun they had and how polite and respectful I was and that they would definately shoot with me again. Your rep will travel very quickly and making sure it is a good one is very important.

NEVER pressure a model to go beyond her limits. That lack of respect will come back to bite you soon and often. Look for another model with a similar body type and facial structure (if her face is in the shot, that is). Listen to the student/teacher comment. It IS true!

All the advice you've received is dead on. I'll give you a couple real world examples. I worked with a number of models who came with "intent" but when it came down to it, couldn't get those last items off. My question immediately is, you ok?, you want to continue? and lastly If this is something you're not sure you want to do then you probably shouldn't. Most of them worked through it, and ultimately took the shot, but start to finish it was THEIR choice. Three models I can remember balked completely, and that was just fine. I never want a model leaving my studio thinking I tried to coerce her into something she didn't want to do. One of them never came back for a second session, but DID send me a couple referrals. The other two asked me at a later date if she could "give it another try". They did, and were much more relaxed, gave me some of the best poses I've ever shot. None one of those scenarios would have transpired had I tried to "talk them into" it first session.

second try number one

second try number two

I too am in this situation, I have a great model I want to do some nude work with. I would only do artistic nudes.
But I have to respect her wishes, and it's a dead subject.
Someone else will come along.
Actuall have 2 projects she would be best for, but......
