Have a question. Last week I took about 150 shots of a friend's daughter. She wants to view the pictures but I was wondering if there was and easy way for her to view them. Of the 150 maybe there were about 25 that weren't that good (bad smile, notice some hair out of place, etc). I am new to this part of photography (done sports photography all my life) but I wanted a new challenge. Also, the mom has said that she wants all the pictures (after the shoot I let her look at them on the LCD on the camera). How does one price that. I thought about giving her just a cd of the images. She has also said that she wants me to photograph her daughter outdoors in about a month. Any help would be appreciated!

Darrin,
I always make a slide show using either Flip Album Pro or Pro Show Gold. With Pro Show Gold you can burn the show to DVD if you want to. I always try to get my clients to view the images the first time at my place. My monitors are all calibrated and they can see the images the way they are supposed to look. Your average Joe's monitor is usually way too bright and who knows where the color is at. I always explain the difference to my clients. As far as pricing, that's kind of a personal thing. I don't sell the cd slide show by itself, but if they reach a certain price point on print purchases I make it available for $25. By the way, make sure the cd is low res and encrypted. Hope this helps!

Darrin,

I always take any bad shots out. If you know something is wrong with the shot why let the client see it?

I agree with the earlier poster as to the reliability of someone else's computer for display. I have actually moved away from doing online previews unless the client specifically requests it --or it's a group thing with mulitiple viewers in mulitple locations-- and gone back to good old fashioned proof sheets whenever possible.

I present proofs on 11 by 14 matte stock, sixteen to a page and since I've gone to mostly paper I have seen a higher rate of print sales per job, strange but true.

Good luck,

Shannon
