You stumbled onto a pet peeve of mine.

When I was much younger, "ladies" wore girdles. The purpose was not so much to suck in their tummies, as to give them a firm silhouette free of offensive and vulgar jiggling. Women of questionable moral standing wore just their panties, or (gasp) less, under tight skirts. I remember one woman trying to describe a woman of questionable character to her friend by saying tactfully, "Well, let's just say there's a lot of movement to her."

The girdle came to be replaced with panty hose which did pretty much the same thing.

Then came the sixties. The hippie movement met up with women’s lib. Both advocated a fashion style that allowed a body to breath and move unencumbered. Bras were out, nipples became common place.

Bras then came back into fashion, but more or less to serve a utilitarian need. It seems some women really needed the support of a bra (go figure). For a brief time Farrah Fawcett-Majors made nipples fashionable but it was short lived.

Then came Madonna.

Madonna wore lacy tops combined with old fashioned industrial duty bras. The bra itself was a fashion statement. For a while she took to wearing it over her blouse.

Victoria’s Secret got into the act, promoting thick pushup bras. The bra was no longer a hidden undergarment, but an adornment. Bras got bigger and bulkier.

But somewhere in all of this, women suddenly became worried about VPL- visible panty line. VPL was first fought with "big momma", or "granny panties," but very soon, the thong style panty took its place. Going "commando" became fashion trend. It became not only acceptable, but required, to let your butt jiggle freely benith your clothing.

For the first seven years that I knew her, I never saw my wife in a bra. Not until she moved into a management position at work. Now we have two teenage daughters. They freak if my wife answers the door without a bra, much less run to the grocery store without one. I don't know where this reaction comes from. But to them, showing nipples is trashy.

Yet, I see them and their friends with their low cut pants and their thong panties ridding up their butts, thinking nothing of it. At the same time, they wear their padded pushup bras with no attempt to hide their bra straps. I just blink my eyes in bewilderment.

I can’t explain it. It defies logic, but YES, at this point in time, NIPPLES ARE OFFENSIVE- go figure.

First off, that is not an offensive image, her breasts are not showing!!!!! It is an outrage, tell her that she must never have anything covering her breasts or neather regions!!!!!! Okay, not that I have gotten the totally absurd out of the way, I can proceed with the intelligent part of my post here. When it comes to advertising, things here are pretty conservative, as in no showing nipples or any areas down under so to speak. But in public practice, I see women walking around in clothing that does not leave much to the imagination. While yes, I do like seeing women in the nude, I do believe that it does have a place. Okay, I must apologize, I am controdicting myself. Maybe not. Even though the U.S. and Canada are neighbors, I believe that the reason why the image was not allowed is due to the vast majority of people saying that showing nipple to the masses is bad. It's a society thing, plus different laws. Anyhow, I hope this helped.

To answer the orinal question, NO nipples are not offensive. They are beautiful, they come in and endless variety of shapes sizes and colors. I like nipples and I have no tolerence for those who try to keep them from me.

To somewhat echo David's point.... It's not that nipples are offensive per se, it's that there is a fear that nipples might offend someone. Since we live in a time where all decisions are made under the fear of a possible adverse reaction, everthing is done with an emphasis more on safety than impact. That's why everything is vanilla, movies are boring, radio stations are all the same, America has lost its flavor and become One Blah Nation Under Bland.

Save the country. Go offend someone today!

Ok, yall probably think I'm weird anyway, but I think breast are way overrated, too much importance placed on them, don't get me wrong, I do love them as much as the next guy. I personally prefer to see a lovely lady dressed to kill over nudity. I've seen my fair share, I've photographed nudity, I like it ...as long as its not vulgar. I've seen this country come full circle twice, starting it's third lap. We can't make up our minds collectively on what's acceptable and what is not. I think if it's beautiful shoot it to the best of your ability and just carry on!

Something I can't understand about myself I can photograph a woman nude, I can see her nude on the beach, but if I see her either in photography or in in any other situation and just a little bit is exposed that shouldn't I get embarrassed. Ok, that is weird....

Just shoot.

well, when I said political parties, I meant more the politicians.

I guess ya, I'm sayin people in general each have their own things they find offensive, and rather than ignoring it, we have to let them make a big deal over it and sue someone and now we have too many rediculous rules of what is "correct".

wait, people in the mountains have harems?
