I tired something a lil different yesterday,,,I made a sock out of ripstop nylon to fit over an AB400 with 7" reflector, I used it as the main just camera left and just a bit higher than the models head, Metered it at f16, a large soft box camera right 45 degrees and about the same height f11 for fill, 10 degree spot grid for hairlight f16 behind model and right of the camera.

Opinions?

Nice image Don, or,maybe I should I say Don and DeAnn.

I like the lighting and the pose. I have one question though, is it my monitor or is the skin tone a little too red? Great shot though.

For what my opinions worh.

Your lighting set up does not have any hot spots this way and other than the shadow on her left leg it appears to be fairly even light.

I tried something similar with an alien bee 800 but used a diffusion panel instead of the sock. The result were a bit different than yours, except one of my lights was a hot light to the camera left. Yes I mixed the lighting.

I have to agree. I also see flat lighting and possibly a hair light on her knee. Without seeing the set up, it could be one of many problems but basically boils down to not controlling the light that is being used.

Just a bit of a miss with the hair light, but minor. But I think there is insufficient background separation. You could slant the hairlight so that it just feathered the back part of the hair and spilled onto the background which would give a little separation.

Here is a little separation for you as a strange wormhole phenomenon tries to steal the model right out the library.

Cheers,
rfs

Thank you Mr.Frederick...I had a light set up as a kicker, seperation light behind her and camera left....but it wasnt firing for some reason...and I do agree on the seperation...but I like the pose and her expression so I wasnt moving to check that light..lol...maybe I should have. Thanks for offering solutions to problems! its always more helpful to the photog!!
