What books would be useful to have around for general tips and helping models feel more comfortable that I'm not just in this to see them naked? I know that seems like a weird question but I would think having some books on glamour photography would be a benefit (unlike say something like "how to photograph naked ladies") Would a book on photographing nudes have a similar effect or would that be seen as creepy?

If you have a clear agreement with the model before the session begins that you will be shooting nudes this shouldn't be an issue.

All my books, in one form or another cover that topic. Just go to our GG bookstore and check out the first three. Thanks again for being a part of the GG family and community, rg sends!

Which book would be suggested for the beginner? Seeing as I might be able to pull off affording exactly one of them.

I am not sure that having a book on the set as such will do anything to reassure your model. Quite possibly the opposite because the model will see you are needing to study.

You reassure your model by the way you act both before and during the shoot. You need to do your homework in advance so that you know both technically and creatively what you will be doing. This will boost your own self confidence and then the model will naturally feel more at ease. As a quick tip it often helps beginner models and photographers if you create a scenario where the model actually has something to do. This will help them to feel less self conscious and and possibly avoid awkward moments while you struggle to work through the shoot. Everything improves with experience 8-)
