I had to restore my computer this weekend and now my PSD images are showing up as icons rather than thumbnails in Windows Explorer and I can't seem to find instructions on resetting this. Of course, they're fine in Bridge.
All other formats appear correctly as thumbnails, i.e., RAW (NEF), JPG, TIF, etc. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

In Windows Explorer, look under View. Set it to Thumbnails instead of Icons.

Thanks, Chuck -

They appear as icons regardless of the view option selected - tried that already.

Ah -- the edit you made on the file formats changes things. Beginning with CS2, Adobe stopped supporting thumbnails of PSDs. However, a number of people figured out that you could change the registry manually to get that functionality back. You may have done that before and had forgotten it. The reinstall put the registry back to the default. Here is one option: http://www.aeonity.com/david/adobe-p...ndows-explorer

Please note that this site is instructing you to download a file and then import that file into your registry. Verify that you are on the same version of OS and PS. If you're different, just Google something like, "PSD thumbnails Vista CS3"

Good luck - should be a quick fix.

Microsoft put out the Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer for Windows XP a while ago. If you are still using XP you may need to re-install it.

Thanks -

I re-installed the MS RAW viewer this weekend, but I noticed that PSD is not listed as a supported file format. I'll get on Google and see what folks have as a PSD viewer download, if any.

Thanks as always,
Mike

You shouldn't need to download anything to view the thumbnails...just a registry key change that registers the PSD file format. (No software to download and install since you already have PS).
