Check out this picture and let me know if this is simply a filter or overlay in photoshop or is it the lighting the photographer purposely set up?

The link goes to a slide show. Which image are you looking at?
Cheers,

The "contrasty dreamy" it's a little bit of both. He has some great lighting and very good PP.

There's no Simple filter or overlay in photoshop that's going to give you that look.

Good luck

?? I looked at a lot of the images, and like R Fredrick, am not able to determine which image you are referring to. There are several categories.. portrait, artistic, models. Give us a clue.. maybe a description, so we can have something to go on.

A lot of the pictures are hit with a little bit of cross-processing action. I can guess the layer opacity is dropped down to 40-60%. I don't know if that's what you are referring to or not... Hope it helps.

If it is the first image that pops up in the link, (a gold/yellow toned profile shot), I believe that it is not a filter but the distortion of a long lens on something in the foreground.
