Sorry if this question has been covered before (I searched but couldn't find it). I have a Canon 20D and would like to view my photo's "live" on a laptop as I take them. It would be like the computer screen becoming the lcd screen on the camera. Is this possible?

Yes you can. I'm not familiar with the Canon family per se, but there may be software that came with your camera (EOS Capture???) that will allow you to shoot tethered and display the results on-screen. Canon may also offer a separate software package, but I don't know for sure.

If not there's Capture One, a Raw workflow tool produced by Phase One, that does it. There are two versions of the software, LE and Pro. I know a fair number of pro's who use it and really like it. You can download a free trial from http://www.phaseone.com

I do this all the time with my 20D when in Studio. It's not hard, but make sure that you first install EOS Capture and DPP from the CD that came with your camera, and then GET THE LATEST from Canon's website. The new software is far more stable and capable than the first version that shipped with the Camera.

Also, make sure you buy a good quality USB extension cable for this, as I've found that a cheap extension caused some problems with lost or incomplete image transfers.

On my laptop with USB 2 and a good quality cable with extension (I'm running 10 feet in total) that I get an image on screen just seconds after taking the shot.

Cheers!
